Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission evaluates health care organizations and seeks to continuously improve health care for the public. The Joint Commission works with more than 22,000 health care organizations and programs across the United States.​

Atrium Health Floyd has four services that have received Advanced Certification from The Joint Commission, indicating our ​commitment to continuous performance improvement, providing high quality patient care and reducing the risk of harm to patients.

​Primary Stroke Center

Time is of the essence during a stroke. Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center can begin treating people experiencing a stroke within an hour of their arrival, preserving brain cells and increasing the opportunity for recovery and survival. Advanced Certification as a Primary Stroke Center comes in conjunction with Get with the Guidelines® - Stroke Silver ​Plus Recognition from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.​

Hospitals that earn this certification:

  • Have an acute stroke team available 24/7, that can be at the bedside within 15 minutes
  • Provide surgical services 24/7
  • Provide designated beds for stroke patients
  • Offer clot busting medication

​​Inpatient Diabetes​​

Patients with diabetes being treated at Atrium Health ​Floyd Medical Center can expect to find a trained staff that ensures they receive quality care​. This Advanced Certification was created ​in conjunction with the American Diabetes Association with the aim of improving the quality of life for individuals with diabetes.

  • Can effectively monitor blood glucose levels
  • Teach patients what they can do to manage diabetes

Heart Failure

Atrium Health Floyd's Advanced Certification comes in conjunction with the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure Gold Quality Achievement Award, given to hospitals that improve the lives of their patients by following AHA treatment guidelines.​​
